Lithuania offers a mix of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and historical sites. It’s a destination with a rich history and warm hospitality, making it an excellent choice for travelers interested in exploring the Baltic region.

Through the border with the Russian exclave Kaliningrad, Lithuania is connected to Russia. The war in Ukraine has left the Baltic state fearing that it might be targeted with a Russian attack next. How does this affect the mood in the country? What’s it like for tourists in Lithuania? Can you even travel to Lithuania in these times? DW’s Lukas Stege travelled to the capital Vilnius to have a look, and to ask around.

I spent the last 5 years traveling the world and every time I’d meet people on the road, they’d ask: “Where do you come from?”. I’d always come back saying: “Lithuania”, just to hear them go: “huh?” At some point it became a little annoying to have to explain the same thing over and over and over again, so I decided to create this video where you will learn everything you need to know about Lithuania.

This is not for people with a fear of heights: Join DW reporter Axel Primavesi on the observation deck of the Vilinius TV tower! But before Axel looks down from a height of 170 meters onto the capital of Lithuania, he will introduce you to Cathedral Square and a typical Lithuanian specialty, Šaltibarščiai.
